How to Limit Occupancy with vIDix Control

Updated: Jun 16, 2023

Social distancing and reduced occupancy levels have shown to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. A variety of state and local guidelines require businesses to set maximum occupancy levels. The problem with implementing this solution is the lack of technological assistance in reducing the number of persons in a given area.

Without any system in place to ensure compliance, it is easy for the numbers of persons to exceed the max occupancy level for a given area. Assigning staff to count people entering and exiting the area is expensive and places the burden of restricting entrance on the staff. The vIDix Control EAC System along with ASSA ABLOY Aperio® Wireless Locks can help ensure compliance by limiting the number of persons in an area or room.

This is accomplished by setting up areas with a max occupancy limit. A numeric threshold is established for each area. Once that threshold has been reached, no more persons are allowed in that area until existing persons have left.

This functionality can also be used to control flow in and out of designated areas. A person cannot re-enter an area unless they have properly exited that same area. This way persons are further separated and do not have to be in close proximity to one another when entering and exiting the area.

In addition to setting up Max Threshold Limits, the system also allows Near Max Threshold Limits. This allows administrators to stay informed of areas near their max occupancy limit, as well as those areas at their max limit.

Areas can be as small as a room or as large as a facility. Flexibility exists to have a single or multiple entrance areas along with a single or multiple exit areas. This allows for the greatest flexibility to control access and flow to a single room, an area within the facility or the entire facility.
